Stress - it’s a peculiar thing what stress can do to your body.  Where does stress come from?  There are many sources of stress – your boss may cause you stress; the workload you are under may do it; relationships may cause you stress.  Bitterness and unforgiveness certainly don’t keep you free of it.  Some people’s lives are bathed in stress.  They swim around in a constant state of stress, their lives are encased in it as water encases you in a swimming pool.  There’s an old saying that goes, “Life is difficult,” and I would like to say that with the difficulties of this life come stress.

Stress does many ugly, unhealthful things to our bodies.  It keeps doctors busy on a daily basis prescribing all kinds of meds to help people deal with it.   Many walk around full of meds and not totally living in reality just to be able to deal with – you guessed it - stress.

We need to move from the state of stress into the state of rest.  But can this be possible in the day we are living in?  You might just say, you don’t know what you are talking about.  But…in Matthew 11:28, Jesus tells us, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] (Amplified).  Somehow, we must learn to let Jesus have it.  He is the only way we will ever be stress-free.  Psalm 94:13 “That You (O Lord) may give him power to keep himself calm in the days of adversity.” (Amplified)

The Bible tells us in Luke 21:26 that in the last days men’s hearts will fail them because of fear.  Could that possibly be because of all the stress that people are living under?  Not only because of all the things that I have already mentioned but because of the economy; the natural disasters that are taking place all over the world; the constant threat of terror; with the U. S. economy; unemployment rate being so high; our own economical decline – why we have been the greatest country in all the world for so long – people have always looked up to us – on the most part – they have leaned on the United States of America for a long time – now the crutch is being pulled away.  Sorry, world, we aren’t what we use to be, therefore, neither are you.

Too many times we take it upon ourselves to try to find rest from stress.  We try to patch things up this way and that way.  We take our meds, only masking what’s really going on inside of us.  We must learn to let it all go.  The Bible teaches us that we must trust in the Lord with all of our heart, lean not unto our own understanding.  In all of our ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct our paths.  Seek Him first and His kingdom and all these things shall be added unto you.

When I was a little girl, my mother use to sit in the rocking chair, take me up and wrap her arms around me.  She would sing, “Jesus loves me this I know”, “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,” and I would be so much at peace before long, I would rest – there was such security and love in those arms!  That’s exactly what Jesus wants to do for you.  Climb up in His lap and let Him sing to you and rest, rest, rest.  It’s so much better than stress, stress, stress!  Isn’t it time for a revival in your soul?  Take time to rest in the arms of our Lord and receive the refreshing that He so freely is waiting to give.
